The zip has its own roof.

A flap runs the length of the back and snaps down over the zip. That single straight line is where most raincoats give up, and covering it is the difference between a dog who is dry along the spine and one who isn't.

Then the colour. The whole model is built on one pairing: blue with orange. The orange isn't trim added at the end to liven things up. It's the collar, the belt, the details, and the fleece lining, all of it. So the warm version is orange on the inside too.

What it does

• Membrane fabric: waterproof, windproof and breathable, so it doesn't get stuffy on a long walk
• Snap-down flap covering the zip the whole length of the back

• Soft elastic belt at the waist with a click buckle
• Long collar, and it's the long one in every size, not only on the big dogs

• Elasticated cuffs and an opening for a collar or harness

One honest note: the seams are stitched, not taped. In a long downpour a little moisture can find its way through the stitching.

Twenty-nine sizes, six body shapes

A dachshund, a whippet and a french bulldog are not three sizes of the same dog. They are three different shapes. That is why a coat sized S, M, L fits almost nobody properly.

• A standard proportions: chihuahua, westie, jack russell, maltese, cavalier
• B broad-chested: pug, bulldog, french bulldog
• C large breeds: labrador, golden retriever, pointer
• D long back, short legs: dachshund, corgi
• E sighthounds: italian greyhound, whippet, greyhound, saluki, borzoi
• F spaniels: cocker, springer, setter

Sizing

Chest girth decides the size. Back length only confirms it. Measure the back to the base of the tail, not the tip. That is where most people go wrong and order a size too big.

A code ending in -1 (A28-1, C50-1) is the same length with a narrower chest, for dogs built lean rather than stocky.

The lining doesn't change the size. Both versions are cut on the same pattern, so take your usual one.

Care

Machine wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle. No bleach, no tumble dryer, don't iron the membrane.
